Tristan Campbell has been crowned ProEvo Champion of Blessed Hugh Faringdon School, after the schools’ Young Enterprise team, Edge 22, ran a tournament which culminated in a shoot out that was so close it ran into stoppage time. (ProEvo Soccer is a popular gamers’ football programme, where players use a mix of skill, fast thinking and tactical judgement to pick and play winning football teams.)
Campbell, 15, and runner up, Adam Cashin-Murray, fought off 32 other entrants. The final bout had both honour and a £30 top prize at stake and was cheered on by both friends and the school’s Young Enterprise team. The score when the whistle blew was four all, with Campbell scoring the winning goal in the last few minutes.
Young Enterprise co-ordinator, Peter Hill, and the team’s business mentor, Nick James, founder of nick-james.com, were also there to encourage their team.
Elizabeth Padden, Managing Director, Edge 22, said: “We have made over £150 on the tournament alone.”
Teacher Peter Hill, who has enjoyed a game or two of ProEvo with the teams himself, has run the Young Enterprise scheme for the past two years. “Last year our team, Urban Rhythm, had a great idea, terrific product, but it proved faulty. This year’s team have worked hard across a variety of smaller enterprises and we are all really proud of them.”
The successful Pro Evo formula will be extended into next year, with different categories for teams.
Mentor Nick James said: “I am learning as much as the team here. They have decided what they want to do and made it happen. The tournament final was a great culmination of this term’s activity and I know that Edge 22 will do really well!”/ends
