When Harrow Council lay down the gauntlet for children to present their vision of the Harrow of tomorrow in art form, they were bowled over by the response: Children had been asked to paint their future vision for Harrow as part of the Council’s Climate Change Day on Saturday 19 May, 2007. On Friday, June 1, winners were awarded their prizes by Harrow’s Mayor, Councillor Jean Lammiman, selected from over 20 entries.

“The quality of entries was phenomenal,” said Council’s Affordable Warmth/HECA Officer, Gemma Moore, who organized the event. “I’m sure the great prizes had something to do with the quantity of entries, but more importantly, the youngsters displayed an incredible awareness of environmental issues. It shows that people really do care about the way we use and abuse the World’s resources, and we hope the children enjoy their well-earned prizes.”
The prizes were supplied by local green developer, ZEDHomes:
Lauren McKeon, aged 6, won a family ticket to London Wetlands in the seven (7) years and under category. Her picture foresees a sunny Harrow, complete with turbines.
Daniel McKeon, aged 11, won a family ticket to London Zoo for his picture in the 8 to 11 years category. His picture featured a sunny Harrow with all kinds of environmentally friendly technologies applied.
Katie Horne, aged 12, was delighted with her prize of £25 of HMV vouchers in the 12 to 14 years category. She envisaged a sunny Harrow under water, with homes floating, ark-style.
Ameeta Sharma, Marketing Manager of environmentally friendly developer, ZEDHomes, which sponsored the prizes for the competition said: “We love the way that children engaged with this competition. We particularly liked the way the children had engaged with global warming issues and related them to water, energy supplies and even wildlife.”
