Save Lives Next Bank Holiday Weekend
Friday 27 May 2005 @ 9:58 am

What did you do this bank holiday weekend?  Spend precious time sitting in traffic?  Shop for a new sofa or summer outfit?  You could save lives and improve your own by signing up for the Action 100 Bike Ride, a Charity bike ride from Bristol to London on 28th August 2005 in aid of Action Medical Research.

Over 450 riders from the South West took part in the Action 100 Bike Ride in 2004 raising over £52,000 in vital funding for medical research. This year, the Bike Ride aims to recruit at least 500 people to get on their bikes for a good cause.

The Action 100 Bike Ride, which helps raise vital funds to improve the health and quality of life of people in the UK by supporting groundbreaking medical research, challenges amateur cyclists throughout the UK to complete a 100-mile bike ride from Bath and Bristol to London in aid of the good cause.

But this year the Charity is also appealing for support for their ‘Touch a Tiny Life campaign, which aims to raise funds to help find answers to the problems of pregnancy and baby health.  Each year, around 70,000 babies are born premature in the UK and require some form of special care. Sadly, around 3,000 of them will die before their first birthday.
Community Fundraising Manager for Action Medical Research Jennifer Reid said:  ”We want to reduce the number of babies who die before their first birthday, or have to live with cerebral palsy or learning difficulties. The Action 100 Bike Ride is great way to show your support.  And, if you don’t think you could cycle 100 miles then we can help.  There is three months left to start your training programme and become fit for the day, why not take up the Action 100 Challenge?”

The Action Medical Research campaign Touching Tiny Lives aims to raise over £3,000,000 to fund vital research, and hopes to help many young parents be part of a campaign, which will have a significant impact on the future of thousands of children and parents in the UK.
To secure your place on the Action 100 Bike Ride on Sunday August 28, call Roy Clarke on 0117 973 6993 or visit the website at www.action100ride.org.uk.
