A group of six employees from the Bristol based Matthew Clark drinks business are gearing up for the 100 mile Action 100 fundraising cycle ride for Action Research, the UK’s leading medical charity.
Richard McManus, based at the huge Matthew Clark distribution centre near Avonmouth decided to recruit a team after reading that AXA Sun Life raised over £2,300 last year setting a new record. The team is named after the Strathmore Mineral Water Company owned by Matthew Clark.
Richard and ‘Team Strathmore’ hope to set a new record for the sum raised at this year’s event on August Bank Holiday Sunday and have challenged any team or individual to beat their fundraising efforts.
Richard McManus said:“This year will be my eighth ride in the Action 100 and I would love it if we could set a new fundraising record for Action Research.”
Strathmore and Matthew Clark are not only giving its support to their own riders but they have generously donated 1,000 thirst-quenching bottles of energy drink for riders on the Action 100 event.
Jennifer Reid, regional representative for Action Research said “We are very grateful to Matthew Clark for their donation of energy drinks. This year all the participants will have plenty of refreshments throughout the 100 mile ride to ensure everyone stays hydrated in this hot weather.”
The Charity has two Bristol-based projects at St Michael’s and Southmead Hospitals. The projects are investigating the causes of premature birth and the cause of hydrocephalus (water on the brain) and cerebral palsy.
The Charity currently has 100 projects around the country searching for answers to a wide range of illnesses and conditions. Through its breakthroughs, the Charity has benefited everyone in the UK. However, every year it has to turn down potentially life saving projects because it simply does not have enough money. This makes events like the Action 100 cycle rides all the more important for the Charity.
There is still time to register for the Action 100 Bike ride on Sunday 24th August, contact Roy Clarke on 0117 970 6348 or go to www.actionresearch.org.uk by Monday 18th August.
